Old Baldy Light is actually known by three different names: Old Baldy, Bald Head Light and Cape Fear, as it sits at the mouth of Cape Fear River. Built in 1818, it was North Carolina’s first established light station. Its fortress-like construction of five-foot-thick brick walls, seven-foot-thick brick foundation and covering of thick sandstone has allowed Old Baldy to withstand the test of time. The lighthouse is now deactivated, but it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Overall lamp height is 24″.
